MyHomeQB - Homeowner Portal
Empowering homeowners with a centralized platform to manage maintenance tasks, schedule services, and oversee multiple properties seamlessly.
The Challenge
MyHomeQB, a service designed to help homeowners manage seasonal and general maintenance, initially came to us with a vague idea of what their portal needed to do. While the vision was clear — helping homeowners manage maintenance tasks across one or multiple properties — the functionality requirements were underdeveloped, leaving some core features missing in the first draft.
To address this, we worked closely with MyHomeQB to clarify the core features and organize the platform's functionality. This involved refining the scope and redefining the project’s features to meet the client’s true needs. The early design drafts were missing some key elements, so we had to carefully plan and rework the requirements to ensure the final product would deliver everything the client envisioned.
The project team included:
Erin Wiggers, Technical Director, who developed the initial backend framework and system architecture.
Myself, Sr. UI/UX Designer, who refined the user experience, ensuring the platform was intuitive and streamlined across different devices and user types.
Daniel Picklo, Sr. Developer, who joined later in the process to implement the final designs and Erin’s framework, ensuring everything functioned smoothly.
Justine Dolorfino-Thieman, Sr. Manager of Technical Services, who oversaw the entire project and guided it from a rough initial concept to a polished, fully functional portal.

Strategy & UX Decisions
We approached the portal design with the goal of creating an intuitive and scalable platform that catered to both single-property homeowners and those managing multiple residences. The strategy focused on simplifying the user journey while delivering robust functionality.
This cohesive design ensures homeowners have a comprehensive tool to proactively manage their properties, reducing the stress associated with home maintenance.
Key UX decisions included:
Dashboard Overview: A centralized dashboard providing a snapshot of upcoming tasks, recent activities, and quick access to essential features.
Maintenance Scheduler: An interactive calendar that allows users to schedule routine maintenance tasks, with reminders and seasonal suggestions.
Service Integration: Direct integration with MyHomeQB's trusted contractor network, enabling users to request services and track progress within the portal.
Multi-Property Management: Features allowing users to add and manage multiple properties, each with its own set of tasks and service histories.
Responsive Design: Ensuring accessibility across devices, so homeowners can manage their properties on-the-go.
The Outcome
The MyHomeQB Homeowner Portal has significantly enhanced the user experience for homeowners seeking a streamlined approach to property maintenance. By centralizing tasks and integrating service scheduling, users have reported increased satisfaction and reduced time spent on home management.
User Adoption: A growing number of homeowners have adopted the portal, citing its ease of use and comprehensive features.
Operational Efficiency: MyHomeQB has observed improved coordination between homeowners and service providers, leading to timely task completion and higher service quality.
Brand Positioning: The portal has positioned MyHomeQB as an innovative leader in home maintenance solutions, attracting new users seeking a modern approach to property management.
This project is a prime example of how a well-defined problem, collaborative concepting, and focused UX design can come together to build something truly valuable.
